I could definitely see somebody doing this if it was a third or fourth revision of the vehicle. But why in the world would you put a deposit on a first year production vehicle . If you never actually seen it or test road it to see how it handles or if you are comfortable sitting in it .

I ordered one. If it doesn’t meet my expectations, I can walk away the dealer will put it on the lot.

Its based on the C2 platform. The same as the Bronco Sport and new Escape.I had a 2020 Escape for a while, and it had the hybrid drivetrain.
The way I see it - if it doesn't fit my expectations, like Wire4Money noted, walk away. I will simply have them move the down payment to my Bronco (and yes, saw it in person, test drive, and yeah.. that is a full commit now).

I ordered one also and I know for a fact that if I don't like it the dealer will be happy to sell it to somebody else because the market for these when they 1st get released will be extremely hot. I really do not anticipate not liking it when I see it. Another factor for my wanting to order it now is that I would like to be the 1st kid on the block to have one.. I think Ford has done a great job and they're going to be very popular. The 1st ones on the road will get plenty of attention. Yes, There may be a few bugs to workout on the 1st ones built, but I'm willing to take that chance. Life is short so why not live it well.

Yeah Ford shouldn't have any issues selling these trucks, even if some back out of their orders.

I have no problem walking away, but I've seen one in person and like it. I really just want to know when I can expect it to get here.

I thought the Maverick is assembled in Mexico only? I think the 2.0 Eco is built in Cleveland, Ohio... don't know any else.

Yep, same plant as the Bronco Sport.

For a few reasons. For one, it's refundable deposit (at most dealerships). For two, it meets my needs perfectly and the timeline of when it should arrive is perfect for when I'll be needing to replace my car. I can't afford to wait until the middle of next summer to replace my car. For three, I ordered an Area 51 XL w/ the 2.0 ecoboost and 4k tow package. I suspect that won't be a very common build to be found on dealership lots. Sure, I could settle for any color, but I don't expect to see them sell for less than MSRP for a very long time. For four, I expect this to be a big hit. I expect the prices to go up for the next model year. And I expect dealer markups on dealer inventory of this model year.

So, yeah, it makes perfect sense to put $500 down now and get it back in a few months if I'm not impressed.
