Loving this! It may have been perfect for my dad, he always kept notes on 3x5 index cards in his shirt pocket. For me, I'm wondering if there's a phone holder/mount that would work by pinching within that cubby. Although, with Apple Car play and Android Auto built in, does anyone still need their phone in that position?

Uber & Lyft drivers do! The driver apps are NOT compatible with with android auto or carplay. Drivers should be able to link the apps to Google Maps, to display on the 8" screen, but you have to still use the app to accept incoming rides. Pretty sure you'll need to connect via USB for maps to work... so you might need to run a USB cable up inside the dash into the box and connect your phone. This is why I wish they would have put SYNC 4 in the Maverick.

Sunglasses up top and stuffed into the very back of the cubby would be my garage door remote on some velcro tape, leaving space in front of it for knickknacks depending on how deep it is.

That cubby would pair nicely with a cell phone holder. It would have to use tension arms that slid into it, putting pressure on the interior sides. I do like the french fry holder though. I should probably forward that idea to Whataburger, so they can get going on redesigning their french fry boxes to fit accordingly.

No wireless AA/CP though, so the phone kind of has to go on the bottom where the input is.
It just needs to physically hold the phone. The USB you'd plug in to get power is right below it anyways. No need to add to the system more than is necessary.

This is what I was thinking, too. Why manufacturers haven't started building a phone holder into the dash is beyond me!
They don't want you using the phone, supposed to be integrated into their infotainment for a bigger screen interface optimized for in-car use.

Looks like the little cubby is for a larger screen. I was looking to see what this Sync 3 thing is all about and on the ford site it has a Sync 4 coming soon which provides an optional upgrade to a larger screen. Makes more sense now why they would design it that way.

I'm almost 100% that there was the intention of using a Larger Screen/Sync 4 with the Lariat Luxury package, but due to Covid and shortages they just kept Sync 3 and left the screen alone and that's why there's the gap. They would never have added the gap unless it was going to be used for 2022 but it was too late.
