Hello, I'm from the LA and Orange County area in southern CA. Every time I have spoken to the dealers in my area regarding this chat and youtube videos I see online, they have all told me that southern CA works differently and that what I see online may not be the most accurate for my area.

If people from CA or southern CA specifically can post here I think it would help us out the best. For example, I did not have to give any down payment or any driver's license information for my order to be accepted by Ford. I have gone to my dealer myself a few times just to verify if the info I see here is true and I even offered to leave money for a down payment but I was told that they couldn't even accept my money as they don't know what kind of incentives they'll have when my Maverick gets in. I was told I'm ok and simply waiting for my order to be pulled by Ford too.

Hopefully this can help anyone in this area to clear up any confusion, thanks.

As an FYI I ordered the XLT, Velocity Blue with the rear sliding window, moon roof, co-pilot 360 and spray-in bedliner. Might take off the bedliner if my dealer can do it there instead of waiting for Ford to pull my order.

I have an order with Sunrise Ford over in North Hollywood (Area 51 XLT with luxury package, co pilot 360, sliding rear window, and all weather mats) along with my wife's Mustang Mach-E. She has a build date coming up in October. I have yet to get my build date. I put 500 down and they took my driver's license and my order was confirmed on 7/24. Did you receive a confirmation email? It looks like this:

Yes I’m going through Cerritos Ford and I also did receive that email confirmation too. I didn’t mention at first that we’ve been going to Cerritos Ford/Hyundai for a good 20 years now, so it may be possible they may be going off good past client history from my family and not need to collect anything else for the time being. If more people say they have given a down payment I’ll go back in a few weeks.

I don't think you need to worry since you received a confirmation email. I thought you didn't. That would have been an actual concern.

That's cool that you had a good experience with Cerritos Ford. I live in Norwalk so I'm very close to the there. My wife and I went there to test drive a Mach-E and the sales person didn't seem all that interested or knowledgable regarding our questions so we decided to check out other dealers instead. (It's been common for us noticing lazy sales people since the car market is so crazy they don't have to try so much to sell a car.) She wanted to order a specific model and package without any dealer mark up so we called around and Sunrise was the first to respond saying they wouldn't. Since we had a good experience with Sunrise I decided to put in my order for the Maverick there as well.

I'm also in CA (IE), and am having trouble getting responses from dealers to put the order in. It seems like there's no incentive for them to do so. Which other dealers did you guys speak to before placing at Sunrise and Cerritos? Were you told no markup by all of the ones you looked into?

Just to put it out there, I know can't speak for everyone else in the area but my own family has been with the Ford/Hyundai dealerships in Cerritos since the 90's (they're the same owner and were neighboring dealers at one point), so my experience just may be different given our history with them.

I called the other Fords in the area and they all pretty much said the same thing - "we have no idea, we can't give you a date, we're all on the same boat" etc... so I personally didn't have any other reason to go anywhere else other than Cerritos right down the street from me since no other dealership seemed more knowledgeable.

As for the Out the Door (OTD) price, I was told a few times that they can't give me one yet since there is a chance Ford (or at least Cerritos Ford) has better incentives by the time my Maverick gets to the dealer. I saved the emails that state "no add-ons, no mark ups" just in case, but since we've been with them for so long our negotiation period is usually only a few minutes to decide leasing or financing terms when we get a new car. I say this because I know my experience isn't like everyone else's.

As a follow up, I have received the email from Ford telling me I'll get that free FITS Accessory Kit so I know Cerritos did place my order correctly and it's just a waiting game now while the factory gets caught up and running.

I didn't have to show DL/ID or put money down because Ford could verify my info based on past sales and current address. They also probably didn't need it since they know if I don't buy the car, someone else will at a marked up cost, so it doesn't do Cerritos any harm if I don't end up buying the car there.

Hope that helps!

Pretty much what he said. I have my dealer order in writing with exactly what I ordered as well as price structure. Sunrise took a $500 refundable deposit and my driver's license. I'm pretty sure there are some reputable dealerships closer to you. I would just call around and see which ones are willing.

I ordered a new Ford Fusion Hybrid from Sunrise Ford in 2012 from an offer they sent me through Edmunds.com. I gave them a deposit, and waited the months that it took for the vehicle to be built and delivered. I tracked the vehicle through Ford's website and went to the dealer the day after it was delivered to them to pick it up. They had already installed an aftermarket alarm and some security stickers that they wanted me to pay an extra $3K for. I was livid and asked them to remove the alarm and stickers and they said they would charge me to do it. This was nine years ago and hopefully they are better now but I will never do business with them again. I ordered my Maverick from Vista Ford. I wish us both good luck with our purchases.

Thank you for the heads up. I’ll keep an eye out for any shiftiness. I bought my Subaru Impreza from Vista. They were overall pretty nice but tried to sell the car at a couple grand over what their ad listed. I let the dealer know about the posted ad and they corrected it at least. Hopefully neither of us will get crap from our dealers.

Any markup or funny business at pick up? Also, how long did it take from the time that the dealer said they would place your order to the time where the order was actually placed? I've submitted my order and DL and they say they have to wait for the fleet manager to sign off...it's been 3 days.

This doesn't seem right. Any dealership with an internet sales team can do this same day. I built my Maverick online and made sure to put Cerritos Ford as my dealership choice. Someone from that team emailed me the proof of submission the same day with a picture of the possible MSRP order. Never heard any fleet manager needing to sign off for a Maverick order, especially since I'm assuming it's just your one car.

You can also place the order with multiple dealerships online and see which one you want to work with best. At the end of the day if they place your order and you don't buy it, they're just going to end up selling it with mark ups so no harm done if you place an order with multiple dealers.

This isn't the final one as I may add/edit my order.

Same day confirmation, no deposit, DL only, no fleet manager sign off. I kept in contact with the person who tracks the orders at your dealer (not sales group) they have the up to gate poop. Good luck

Geez, finally got an order placed! They claimed to have not seen the email w/ my DL even though I have been following up daily to make sure they got it. Once they got it (again), literally placed it in 5 min. I think they just prioritized other things/sales.

Not sure how alive this post is but I finally got a build date for April, plus the 4-6 weeks in delivering the car should put me around late May/early June purchase date.

I ordered mine back in August so looks like it'll be the standard wait time as everyone else is experiencing around the country. My VIN is showing but the window sticker isn't available at this time. I just got the email today so very early still in the process.

That's awesome! Did you get a hybrid or ecoboost?
