Disgusted with my dealer, 2023 order wasn't made

I ordered a Maverick XLT in October 2021 that made it to Priority Code 02 but never got scheduled for production. When the 2023 order bank was opening on September 15th, I stopped into the dealership to tell them they needed to place a new order for me to get a 2023 model. I email them copies of the specific steps needed to get an order in (as posted by Tim Bartz on his Ford Video Guy postings) which explained that it requires a NEW order to lock in a 2023 model. I sent them copies postings from others on this chat and others that had successfully completed their 2023 orders. They kept attempting to "update" my 2022 order to a 2023 despite everything I told them. The day after the 2023 orders closed, I got a call from them telling me that I have an order "in order processing" so I thought they had finally made a new order. Yesterday I stopped by the dealer to get a copy of my order information and they printed it out for me. It's still the 2022 model year order that I made in October 2021, never updated to 2023, no new 2023 order made. The truly sad thing is that they still think that Ford is going to schedule and build my Maverick based on that order. Everything I'm seeing online tells me that Ford is done scheduling any new 2022 model year builds, so this order is never going to be filled.

I've been waiting for almost a year for my Maverick, very frustrated, and now it looks like the earliest that I could possibly get one would be a 2024 model if I can get an order in when they open the order banks next year. I don't know if these folks are just lazy or completely clueless, but I think I am done with them and with Ford. I've waited so long now that I think I'll just wait longer for Toyota or some other manufacturer to build a compact hybrid pickup and skip the Maverick altogether. (Not to mention that their error will cancel my $2750 private offer toward a 2023 model hybrid Maverick.) I'm just disgusted with the whole thing.

I was hoping Big Ford would figure out a way to make it up to customers who get screwed ONLY because of their dealership's incompetence. There's only one real remaining recourse. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, talk to them and see if they'll sell you one of their inventory stock at MSRP because it was THEIR fault, then get them to add a bunch of accessories on their dime because they made you lose your private offer. Go directly to the general manager. Show him you gave all the correct info in a timely manner and they biffed it. While Toyota might offer a superior model, it will be awhile and surely cost more. Good luck.

By the way, did you call Big Ford to verify whether you've been scheduled or not?

It sucks. The auto industry as a whole is going through some tough times…. Hell every industry is going through tough times…

I would not be so sure ford is not going to update your order to a 2023. That was my understanding after I ordered a 2023 and sold my 2022 back to the dealer. I knew that the 2022 orders would be filled before my new order were made. I would call ford and find out.

Doesn’t matter if the dealer fouled it up. Ford would foul it up if the dealer didn’t. Mine did it right on day one, and it will not be built.
When i placed my order in Sept 2022, I asked if I could watch the sales manager enter my order. After a bit of a wait, I watched him put the order in and print out a confirmation for me. I would encourage everyone who puts in an order for a 2024 to follow this process.

Weird. What exactly did you order? Like accessories and what-not?

I’m still waiting for my XLT ordered in Oct 2021 and still don’t have a build date.
So sorry for your loss.

It is stunning, absolutely stunning, how little dealerships know about the products they are selling and the systems to sell them.
I really don't see the point of their existence anymore.
Let us order online and deliver it to our driveways.
They should be service centers only.
We all get the information on here and other sites way way before they ever if ever get it.
I have been laughed at when trying to tell a couple of different dealers information they had no idea about.
Stuff that's right there in black and white and stuff they should anticipate.
"Where did you hear about this 'super secret' opening day of ordering being Sept 15?"
"Oh no ordering won't be closed in a few days, you'll have months to order the 2023"
"Oh no you don't need a COVP number"
Teslas are ordered online and delivered. We actually have laws in Michigan that older car companies can't do that to save the dealerships.
That has to change.
I still have my Sept 15 order - in spite of them.

But you may still get your truck. The mistakes Ford and the dealerships are making could go your way too. I don't think they are purposely trying to screw the customer. I think its just severe incompetence. I wouldn't count on it but I wouldn’t count it out.

Relying on their incompetence rather than their competence may work out for you.
