Do reports really show accidents that weren’t claimed?

If a seller fixed a car privately without going through insurance, will a vehicle history report still pick it up? Or do these reports rely only on insurance and DMV data? I’m curious if things like a frame repair or airbag deployment would always be there, or if there’s a chance it slips through. For anyone who’s used reports before, how accurate have they been in revealing hidden damage?

Good question vehicle history reports mainly pull from DMV, insurance, and auction records, so if a seller fixed something privately and it was never reported, there’s a chance it won’t show up. That said, I’ve used Detailed vehicleHistory before, and it did flag accidents, airbag deployments, and even structural damage when they were officially logged. It’s definitely a strong tool, but I’d still suggest pairing it with a professional inspection so you don’t miss hidden repairs that never made it into the system.
