Ordered a hybrid back on day one. Attempted to change platforms a bit after that and at that time Ford said no. In Dec when they announced that platform changes were now ok, changed to a Lariat Ult FX4 with 4K tow. Got the build notice a month later. However I forgot to check the spare tire option ! Doh! Didn't notice that while included in the Hybrid Lariat package, they are not elsewhere. My bad. Picked up my Maverick last week, Ford tracking still shows in route 7 days later. LOL. I put on some new tires today some BF Goodrich Trail Terrains , after also looking at the Falken Wild Peak ATTrails. I went with the 23's, so not an appreciable difference in height. Perhaps wheel wells a bit more filled out. Discount Tire gave me 75 dollars per Perelli with less than 100 miles. I'll debate the Ready Lift 1.5 " later. After more talk of CVT distress lessens or increases. So I dropped by Ford today to check on a full size spare. I had read that the package wheels were not available. However much to my surprise they were, for the low sum of $956 dollars ! Steel wheel was a bargain at $650 dollars right? LOL: So if running different size tires damages AWD vehicles, how can Ford even put a donut spare on board? Plenty of places out West where one might have to drive a few hundred miles or more to find a replacement. If any damage occurred I certainly would be looking to Ford. Even with so few miles overall
I am impressed so far. Different viewpoint than my F350 but plenty of pep, looking forward to a bit of dirt, and break in to see where MPG comes in at.

One thing that I have kept in the trunk of my car for at least the past 20 years, is a heavy duty tire inflator that is powered by the cigarette lighter. It has come in very handy for my car, truck, and bicycle tires over the years. My 1994 Town Car that I purchased in 1997, had the little temporary spare tire. On a trip from Maryland to Florida in 2006, my right front tire went flat in North Carolina. Sure enough, the little spare needed air, but I had the tire inflator. I had to drive about 30 miles on Route 95 which has a 70 mph speed limit, and almost everyone is doing 80, and I was going 50 mph because of the dinky spare to find a tire store. When I bought my current 2002 Town Car in 2007, the original owner bought a full sized spare tire and wheel.

Ford can use a donut spare because the overall diameter of the spare tire matches up close enough to the original tires to keep the transmission happy.

Sounds like you didn't stick with the OE tire size though - so congratulations, you played yourself.
How did I play myself? LOL I wasn't bitching that I missed the full size spare option, that is on me. I was bitching that Ford wants over 900 dollars for a single FX wheel. If you think that is a great price, well..... As far as OE, I like many got rid of the less than desirable Perrelli's. Went smaller than many say they are running without lift. If you want to run inferior tires feel free. Ford runs the donut spares because they make more money. Like why they removed hood insulation and wheel well covers from my Super Duty's. I have been hearing they are now not including an owners manual in Super Duty's, putting it on the screen. If that is true I'll also be bummed with Ford when my dually is delivered. My 2022 has one, I hope the 23 does.
Just a thought to consider when wondering how important the tire size balance is: I recall reading that ups (or fedex?) has programmed delivery routes that takes as many rt turns as possible to avoid the left turn lane. Obviously those driver side tires will be constantly be rotating more than the passenger side ones. Personally I don't worry about temporary spare use, and have on occasion used it for a long duration (pared with well worn "larger" tires).
A full size spare is worth getting if you have a matching rim with it.
The full size spare on all model ranges only matches the XL steelie but the spare tire does NOT match your other four tires on your XL steelies so it cannot be mixed in during rotation. If your OEM wheels are worth 900$ each, sell them individually to others who want/need a matching spare and buy yourself 5 aftermarket wheels of your choosing. Shit... if ford minions are watching, I'll never get mine built. Damn I thought this would be my last vehicle before the old folks home and a wheel chair. After 17 fords leased during my career, I had to pick the chicken lips/frogs teeth unobtainium truck.

Our Transit RV dually has 4 aluminum and two steel (inner) wheels. It did not come with a spare AT ALL, as there is no room aboard RV to store one! I ordered a steel rim, added a tire, and an off-road vehicle hitch rack to keep it on. Spare can be placed in any position on vehicle if needed.

So why is Ford not supplying a full size identical tire with Mavericks equipped with the trailer towing package? Their guide says one should use an identical tire.

Wouldn't simply turning OFF Traction Control be fine for the slight difference?
