PROGRESS LIFT Springs Installed

Had a customer drop over with lifted Maverick and he used the spacer and bolts kits that are cheaply available on EBAY and other places. The big issue with raising the Maverick up but retaining stock spring rates is that leverage on the springs is quite a bit more and the ride was soft and sloppy. Higher center of gravity without increase in rates made for a mess in a S turn road unless you drive it like an old lady. He asked if we can do better, and we figured we could do a lot better. So with our friends at Progress we have a set of prototype LIFT springs that are 20 percent stiffer than stock. Result drives more flat in the turns than the stock height Maverick, and quite a bit better than lifted Mavericks that retain the stock springs.

These springs will be ideal for those that wished they waited for Tremor package. Like the Tremor package we are about an inch above stock Maverick, nothing crazy. And with higher rate springs it actually handles more flat in the turns than a stock Maverick despite the higher center of gravity. It will be a few months before these springs reach production. We decided to use the same tire that Ford picked for their Tremor package, except we did one size wider.

If the Maverick is lowered or lifted the control of front Camber is limited unless an upgrade is made to add more range of adjustment. We found that with the lift springs installed we had 1 degree of POSITIVE camber. Positive front camber means it handles like crap, the front end washes out if you push it all in the turns. These bolts with a little cam lobe install easily and allowed us to go from positive degree of camber to beyond -1.5 camber at the front. I was tempted to take all that negative camber for best handling, but given the strut design and weight of this AWD little truck we compromised with just about -1.2 camber, which will handles massively better in the turns than the degree of positive degree of camber we had.

Did 550 miles today in the Maverick!
It does cover ground really well for a little truck.

The Progress Lift Springs are GO for Production! Did a few thousand miles on them during the holiday, including 550 miles one morning before lunch to family in Bodega Bay and then a few hundred per day on the curvy coastal roads up there and some off road fun along the coast and fire roads. Lots more pics and details in our forum build thread.

Interested in these, any more info and or updates?

Continuing to put miles on them, a few thousand on road and a few hundred off-road. They are going to production. Got a snowboarding weekend planned on the 14th and might get some more pics at that time.

A bit of toy towing with the lift springs. It works great.
