5 year warrantee does cover AWD internal parts ( gears) but only tires and wheel alignment has * not oils and lubricants. We called PJ Ford our local dealer on maintenance of changing PTU build but no info on required gear oil change found.

Report of low gear oil have surfaced when customer change gear oil at 10,000 and 30,000 miles intervals ; customer report milky color but more importantly metal flakes in the gear oil due to break in of gears meshing.

It appears that the rear drive shaft may or may not be constantly in motion when driving and only the RTU engages based on computer input to its electric motor. If so the gear oil is constantly being heated and lubrication the internal PTU all times in motion. The PTU bolts on to trans-axle and is a three sealed out put to front two short axles and rear driveshaft and it is reported such seal are of poor quality and when subject to extreme exhaust heat will fail.

The above is extremely technical but I have been a gear head since my 1959 Galexcy with a 351 cc.

Conclusion: Will Ford warrantee cover checking reported under filling of PTU by removal to drain plug only and having tech check it free under expressed warrantee? ( Differential should be filled at that point and stick you index finger with a protected glove will easily determine if it was under filled at factory simply.25 hour if properly filled at factory. IF NOT ADD MORE GEAR OIL UNTIL IT FLOWS OUT FULL!

PREMATURE PTU failure even not in Tremors off road ( different PT and RD unit have warning messages and shut down reported?
