It appears Ford has created a hybrid radio that allows Android Auto/Apple CarplayTrying to figure out the details on Android Auto on the Maverick.
It looks like it's standard on all models, but SYNC 3 is only on Lariat luxury package.
How is Android Auto implemented in the other models without SYNC 3?
You won’t need a vent mount. When you hook your phone to the USB port, the 8 inch screen becomes Android Auto navigation. Google Assistant takes over. It is pretty much flawless. The navigation piece I can get around by just getting a vent mount for my phone to see the display, but it would be nice to know what degree of voice functionality I would have through this implementation of Android Auto.
As TommyBoy said, with Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay you don't need to be concerned with the "basicness" of the radio on non-lariat trims. Google Assistant (and I'd assume Siri also) will handle all of your voice command needs. I can just say "Hey Google" in my current vehicle to bring up the assistant and ask it to do what I need. You won’t need a vent mount. Ignore the SYNC 3 mentions in this video, but otherwise you’ll get the picture.
Hum, good point. I do that to bypass the crappy toyota entune interface system. As TommyBoy said, with Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay you don't need to be concerned with the "basicness" of the radio on non-lariat trims.
