Question on Android Auto and SYNC 3

Trying to figure out the details on Android Auto on the Maverick.

It looks like it's standard on all models, but SYNC 3 is only on Lariat luxury package.

How is Android Auto implemented in the other models without SYNC 3?

It appears Ford has created a hybrid radio that allows Android Auto/Apple Carplay
I wonder if they are doing the same thing another brand did: Same unit, just missing internals for things like enhanced voice, navigation, etc. to have a 'basic' model.
When these hit the lot, we sould be able to find out for sure.
The navigation piece I can get around by just getting a vent mount for my phone to see the display, but it would be nice to know what degree of voice functionality I would have through this implementation of Android Auto.

You won’t need a vent mount. When you hook your phone to the USB port, the 8 inch screen becomes Android Auto navigation. Google Assistant takes over. It is pretty much flawless.

Ignore the SYNC 3 mentions in this video, but otherwise you’ll get the picture.

As TommyBoy said, with Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay you don't need to be concerned with the "basicness" of the radio on non-lariat trims. Google Assistant (and I'd assume Siri also) will handle all of your voice command needs. I can just say "Hey Google" in my current vehicle to bring up the assistant and ask it to do what I need.

Hum, good point. I do that to bypass the crappy toyota entune interface system.
