Sirius Radio option

WHY is Sirius radio ONLY offered in the most expensive pacage? One cannot have Sirius according the the BUILD options unless they are ordering the Mav-Lariat with Luxury pkg! This definitely seems discriminatory. Many automakers offer Sirius as an option even in their lower end models.
A Ford salesman told me I cannot buy a Sirius radio and have it installed at a Ford dealership or it would completely void my warranty for anything under the hood/engine related. I cannot understand the logic here…..can anyone explain as to why this was told to me? I bet SiriusXM would like to know about this; especially since Ford is most likely going to sell thousands of these trucks. I’m thinking maybe I should wait for the 2023 models to see if they have changed their minds about this.

I didn't even realize that SiriusXM was only available on the Lariat, that is kind of idiotic. Your Ford salesman lied to you. Adding anything aftermarket would not automatically void the warranty. In order for it to void the warranty Ford would have to PROVE that the aftermarket product (SiriusXM) caused any warranty related issues. There are laws to protect consumers and they can't just void the warranty because you install aftermarket equipment. I can't see how having SiriusXM installed could possible cause any issues. People have aftermarket things added to their new vehicles all the time and the warranty is not voided. Aftermarket remote start is a popular example.

With Apple CarPlay/AA, I deactivated S/XM and just use I🧡Radio. I got tired of having to threaten to leave every 5 months to keep the same discounted rate of $5.99.

Also the sound quality of Sirius/XM isn't even that great compared to streaming off your phone.

That is very true. SiriusXM uses too much compression or something and the sound quality is terrible. But there's so much content on SiriusXM and I'm not sure I could live without it at this point. I've had it since 2005.

Use Spotify on your phone instead. I understand it's different because with Sirius you just flip to a channel and it's curated but with Spotify or a similar service almost any song you can think of is there.

Ditto, my truck has it, and I haven't used it since I purchased a bluetooth aux input since I'll use my phone any day of the week either to stream or to use my own playlist on poweramp.

You can subscribe to SiriusXM Internet radio and play it from your phone.

That’s a bit disappointing……but now at least I can cancel my Sirius subscription and save even more moolah.

No need to cancel your Sirius subscription. Just download the Sirius app to your iPhone and then you'll be able to listen to it via the Apple CarPlay on the Maverick. This way, you won't need to buy the Lariat package and still enjoy Sirius XM.

You can get a portable Sirius receiver that uses Bluetooth or Line In on your Maverick. Works just fine.

I fully agree with you that that is just plain silly that the Sirius radio is only available with the highest trim level and an extra package. It may be the chip shortage that is limiting this for now, or as a salesperson mentioned at my dealership that Ford is making things simpler during launch so it's not as complicated as the workers (and Ford) learn how to build the vehicle. I do have to say, that dealer you spoke to is not informed because having a dealer install a radio upgrade will not void a warranty.

I doubt you would be able to use the factory radio controls to change stations while streaming Sirius but I suppose it's not impossible. I know on my Volkswagen & my Kia I am not able to change stations with the radio controls or steering wheel controls when streaming Sirius.

It doesn't on other SYNC 3 systems I've used.

I've noticed this with the Maverick and other new models. Car companies seem to be following the public in that most folks really don't want anything other than a decent touchscreen and speakers. Apps, Nav, Hands-free, etc. are, for most folks, going to go through their phone. I don't think I've used any of the infotainment features on my Clarity the entire time I've had it. Everything goes through CarPlay.

I renew every year for 5.99 I tell that’s all I will pay. I pay a year at time…with taxes it about $74.

I get tired of playing the cancel my account game. Just keep me on an auto rewnewal at the $6/mo and stop playing games. I don't want anyone to lose their jobs but if they jsut made everyone the same 6/mo, they wouldn't need the call center.
