Your math is off. Lariat Lux hybrid is $31k. Base Ridgeline starts at $37k.
I got a little over $3K difference before taxes between comparably equipped AWD lariat Lux and AWD Ridgeline. Certainly worth looking at considering what you would be getting. Don't know what resale and reliability will be like for Maverick but Hondas reputation speaks for itself. Haven't driven a Maverick but was very impressed with the Ridgeline but it is out of my price range. The Maverick XL and XLTs are excellent value for what you get.

I wonder how different prices are in Canada.

Since Honda doesn't offer FWD or a base engine the starting price is much higher which also forces me to pay way too much for gas long term.

Looking to replace my 2011 Tacoma 2wd 4cyl. Base Canadian Tacoma now is 4wd 6cyl. at around $48k on the road. No 2wd 4cyl any more. I can get into a Maverick XLT Hybrid that clicks all the boxes for about $36K on the road + double the fuel economy.

I've had it for about 6 weeks now. Wife drove it to Kansas to visit our daughter (2000 miles round trip) and that's when she decided the SC was her car and she gave me her 2016 Rav4. I have only driven it less than 100 miles. I dare not get a scratch or a ding on her SC or into the dog house I go.

I'm back to waiting on a Hybrid Maverick so I don't have to worry about getting the truck bed dirty.

One other thing. I calculated the gas mileage from her trip with actual pump receipts. Her whole trip driving out and back from Kansas (2216 miles) plus driving in and around Kansas for a week yield 29.3 mpg.
What's your take on the build quality? Any likes dislikes so far?

Did some law change in Canada mandating AWD or something? Are your winters really that bad?

No and No! I don't know what the reason is, limited market, maximizing profits, different demographic, who the fk knows. Canadian models come off the same assembly lines as US models yet we get about 1/3 the selection.
Yeah, but you guys don't have the stupid 25 year rule. I'd really like to buy a Lancia Delta Integrale some day, but due to Lancia's natural inclination to return to the iron oxide from whence it came, they're all ludicrously expensive. Would've been nice to be able to import one in the late '90s/early 2000s.

Very few people in Canada buy two wheel drive pickups. I ordered my Maverick with 4 wheel drive for better traction in the rain (seldom snows where I live, but boy-oh-boy does it every rain a lot), and 4 wheel drive trucks are much easier to sell.

Excellent quality inside and out and I dislike my wife has taken custody of it. If there's any problems she will not hesitate to have me get it fixed. If you want more input go over the the Santa Cruz Forum and read what they are saying.
Nice. I guess its no wonder that Hyundai has climbed the rankings in quality studies to be #1 in many cases.
Keep us posted on how your experience goes.

Hyundai as well as Kia vehicles weigh more than other vehicles. As for the Santa Cruse, it is 300 pounds heavier than the Maverick. Known this for years and why their gas mileage is worse.

I just hit 1000 miles on my Santa Cruz SEL Premium, AWD 2.5T.

21-22 in town, 27 highway for mpg.

The 277hp/311tq is instant power when I hit the gas. I also test drove a 2.5 non-turbo, got back to the dealership, handed the salesman the keys and said, no thanks.

I paid more than what I would have paid for a Lariat and a lot more than the hybrid XLT that I ordered.

I like the rollup locking hard cover, the backseat has more usable room, at a sacrifice of a smaller bed, 5/60k bumper to bumper warranty, 3 years free oil changes, standard on every new Hyundai. No BCM's in a Hyundai, make whatever mods you want. Lots of storage. I have my emergency road kit in the trunk under the bed. tool kit, jumper cables, jack, bungees, racquet straps, receiver. All out of sight but under lock and key if I need them. Self leveling rear suspension. 245/60/18 tires are an inch taller than the Mavericks 225/65/17 tires. Steps in the rear bumper, I'm not as spry as I used to be.

What I like better about Fords: The software is better, The SC has some funky quirks on door locks, The SC has no brake controller. Better mpg's,
