With Ford officially revealing the Maverick and reservations now open, our imaginations starting running wild about what could be done with a compact truck like this, including what a two-door short cab would look like.

To start, a two-door Maverick would certainly be a more utilitarian option for those that plan to use it as a work truck. A short cab would allow Ford to extend the 54 inch (4.5 foot) bed closer to the bed size of an early '90s Ranger (72 inches / 6 feet). With Ford's new Flexbed design a larger bed could offer even more configurations for owners.

If the Maverick's $20,000 starting price wasn't low enough a short cab would likely lower the price even more than that. Imagine a short cab Maverick 2WD hybrid with a starting price of $17,500? That sounds pretty good doesn't it?

We bought in 1992 a new GMC S15 extended cab with a 4.3 (350 minus two cylinders) and a 5 speed, maroon on top, grey on bottom. Loved the extended cab, and that 4.3 making that puppy crank pretty quick! I would love to see a Mav in an extended cab.

Anyone else thinking that with the Ranchero name being revived that Ford might just be calling a 2dr Mav a Ranchero?

Here's to hoping. View attachment 4117
And with a slite bubble hood and some performance mods call it a Maverick Ranchero with Grabber in the stripe ???? Or, just "Grabber??"

It definitely looks sportier w/2 doors. I also like the longer door of a traditional coupe. Now imagine it with a lower stance, the twin clutch rear diff., and a 2.3L with 300+ horses under the hood.

Can we make it a 6 foot bed with a rear differential with a 5.0 and 12 inch meats on the back?

I currently have a 2016 Nissan Frontier King Cab, and looking to purchase new in a year or so. I like the small pickups, but they have all gone full size. The Maverick seems perfect, but I don't want a 4-door, rather prefer the king cab style with a full size bed. The 2-door short cab is definitely closer to what I'm looking for. I'm very interested to see how this exploration develops. If there were a king cab version with a full bed, I'd already be on-board with the Maverick as my next purchase.

i think the PU (pick up) market has grown bigger in the last 25 years because that market has changed and evolved. More folks are buying pickups with hauling their familes around (not just tools & materials).

I'm not going back to a single cab, I've had 3 single cabs, 1965 Chevy C10 Fleetside, 1974 Chevy LUV (CRAPPY), 1995 Nissan XE, nope, neva, neva again, king cab maybe but never a single cab truck. Interesting all three were stick, ain't going back to a stick shift.

I wish my 350,000 mile short box single cab stick shift 2wd that I wanted to put a 300hp 327 in would not have rusted away. :(

One thing that kept we from jumping of the earlier Mavericks was that I was hoping they would come out with a Super Cab (extended) version. I had been driving a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge Super Cab for the last 20 years and it took me a while to surrender to the crew cab truck look. I too had visions of swapping out the V6 for a small block ford V8 and keeping it as my daily driver but I didn't have the resources to pull it off and traded it in on my 24 Maverick Lariat. After a few months I've really grown to love this truck and having the back seat allows me to do a little part time Uber/Lyft to make cigar money ;)

$17.5k would make this an even better work truck which I'm sure Ford will sell lots of.

I disagree that it would sell anywhere that low of a price, and I doubt enough would be sold to make producing them worthwhile. Back in the old days, that is pretty much the standard truck people got. But times have changed, and few would want only a 2 passenger vehicle these days. Sure, for a work truck some would sell, but very few pickup are sold for work trucks these days.
